The Empire

Fan painting is a distinctive genre within Chinese art. I created this piece with that traditional format in mind, combining the Asian aesthetics of cloud and water with the perspective techniques characteristic of Western landscape painting.
The Empire received the Best Landscape Prize at the Bath Society of Artists’ Annual Exhibition in 2017.
The Empire building is one of Bath’s most iconic landmarks. Located on the Grand Parade and overlooking Pulteney Bridge, it was built between 1899 and 1901 as the Empire Hotel, designed by the City Architect, Major Charles Davis.
